Follow us to THE CLOUD!

Unusual structures often require unusual lighting designs, as was the case with the New Zealand project affectionately referred to as "The Cloud".

The construction of this building on the Auckland waterfront, which is planned as the entertainment hub for the 2011 World Cup Rugby Union tournament, provided the design team at Aesthetics Lighting a unique challenge. The physical nature of the construction with its twisting shape created many challenges for the lighting designers. In brief, the lighting concept was to illuminate the building in such a way as to allow it to glow and stand out on the waterfront as an iconic architectural statement.

The solution: five hundred (500) DALI controlled coloured fluorescent lamps installed along the twisting structure on both sides of the building. A unique self adhesive mounting system designed and manufactured by the team at Aesthetics Lighting was used to avoid drilling of the beams and to provide an even colour distribution onto the canvas surface. The result... a fantastic outcome. For more information contact: auckland@aesthetics.co.nz

NZ Memorial in London Unveiled

Aesthetics has been proud to be associated with the recently completed New Zealand Memorial in London's Hyde Park Corner, designed to celebrate and commemorate the close bonds between NZ and the UK in peace and war.

Conceived by Athefield Architects' John Hardwick-Smith in conjunction with sculptor Paul Dibble, the series of sixteen bronze quadrilateral crosses have been positioned with six illuminated by LED strands to replicate the Southern Cross constellation. The result is spectacular, easily recognisable and a tribute to the relationship between our two countries.
