The Scheme

The Audio Visual contractor Asnet Technologies approached Aesthetics Lighting Solutions seeking an automated lighting control solution for the new Video Conferencing room.

The Challenge

The brief was to retrofit the boardroom, replace existing lighting with energy efficient, dimmable lighting sources using Led & Fluorescent technology.

A Dali Lighting control system that would interface seamlessly to the AMX Audio Visual control system was required. While full automation was specified there was also a requirement to be able to control lighting manually from a control switch at the door and also from the AV controller.

Additionally  “absence detection” which would switch the lighting off 20 minutes after the last person leaves the room  was required.

The Concept

Close  liaising with the AV contractor John Kandiliotis and Stuart Fraser from Asnet Technologies and Slade the architect was required to work through the lighting circuitry and control schema.

The AMX system controls the TV screens, cameras, audio, microphones, projector screen,  and electric blinds.

The VC room is used in the following fixed modes:

1. Video Conferencing
2. Meeting
3. Presentation
4. Projection
5. Functions (formal)
6. Functions (informal)

The above modes required individual lighting scenes to be set in the DALI control system and recalled from the AMX AV colour touch screen controller.

The Solution

The light fittings were fitted with Dali ballasts and the required lighting control system was then interfaced to the AMX system. This was achieved by using addressable Dali scene controllers and group controllers.

Using an addressable DALI system offered additional flexibility for the client particularly at commissioning time. Fine tuning in lighting levels to either eliminate reflections or increase lighting levels on peoples faces for VC mode was easily achievable and left the client with a system that is completely flexible for reconfiguration in the future.
