No matter which type of product you are researching – commercial lighting or otherwise – one of the best ways to know if it is worth purchasing or not is to check its award history. Those of you who are using the GenLED One Luminaire, or have been recommended to do so by the friendly team at Aesthetic Lighting Solutions, will be happy to know that this light recently took home a high honour in Australia.
On Oct. 02, 2015, the IES presented Gerard Lighting’s GenLED One with the IES NSW Award for Luminaire Design Excellence.
Awarding GenLED One Luminaire
Recently, the prestigious Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IES) held its annual NSW Luminaire Design Awards in Sydney. This ceremony seeks to highlight design and manufacturing quality of luminaires in the Australian state, and products that show these merits are granted either an Award of Commendation or of Excellence.
On Oct. 02, 2015, the organisation presented Gerard Lighting’s GenLED One Troffer with the latter award (IES NSW Award for Luminaire Design Excellence, in full).
About the winning light
Gerard Lighting actually created the GenLED for a company called Lendlease, which wanted an innovative, sustainable lighting solution for one of its projects: International Towers Sydney in the suburb of Barangaroo.
The challenge was to provide a lighting design that was highly energy efficient. On top of that, it didn’t just have to compliment its surrounding environment aesthetically, but also be realistically functional and sustainable.
The result? Low-level side light ambient panels that can offer a contrast to a primary lighting source and make your space feel warmer. In terms of numbers, the GenLED has a UGR of less than 19 and a luminous efficacy of 90 lm/W. This light should last up to 50,000 hours without costing a fortune, and from Aesthetic Lighting Solutions here in New Zealand, it comes with a five-year warranty.
