At Aesthetic Lighting Solutions, we've made little secret of the money and energy saving benefits of switching from traditional incandescent bulbs to LED lamps. Whether you're converting your lighting system only in your home, or on a larger commercial scale, making the change can only result in long-term benefits to you.
During 2015, 90 per cent of large arenas that chose to have their lighting systems updated opted for LED packages.
However, as with many business ideas, the larger that you think, the bigger the final payoff. How much money from your power bill do you imagine could be saved, for example, if you substituted an entire stadium's arrays of halide lights to LEDs? You'd be right in thinking that it would be an enormous amount indeed – up to 85 per cent, according to an article in Forbes.
A shining stadium
It's been a long-held notion, though, that properly lighting a large arena such as a football stadium or tennis court with LED bulbs is a near impossibility due to their perceived weaker projection. However, these fears have proved unfounded, and during 2015, 90 per cent of large arenas that chose to have their lighting systems updated opted for LED packages.
The amount of power that can be saved, of course, is a huge attraction to big sports venues looking for a change to their lighting designs. Look at the War Memorial Arena in Syracuse, New York, for example – this is venue that can hold some 8,000 people and, in 2012, underwent a lighting renovation. The old-fashioned, energy-wasting lamps were taken out, and cutting-edge LEDs were installed instead.
The old power outlay was found to be around 263,000 kilowatts, but after the switch had been made, only 32,000 kilowatts were used – a reduction of 87 per cent. Remember, that's in a venue of just 8,000 – imagine how much money major stadiums around the world could save if each of their bulbs were LED!

More than just money
It isn't just the savings that LED sports lighting offers. There can be little question that the pure quality of LED lights are of huge benefit to any sporting venue. Shadows are almost completely eliminated, meaning that the players and spectators alike can keep up with all the action without a hint of confusion, and dark spots will become a thing of the past. What's more, a sports arena will look all the more impressive when decked out in LED, both in the proverbial flesh, and on high-definition televisions screens in the home.
